JEANS TEAM APPROUCHED GENESIS LABS TO SUPERCHARGE 

THE ALREADY INCREDIBLE WORK OF ART THAT WAS THE HEAVY EP ONE:DOG - THE TITLE SEQUENCE HAD TO CEMENT THE VIEWERS MINDS IN THE WORLD OF HEAVY AND GIVE A SNEAK PEAK INTO THE CHARACTERS AND THE STORYLINES THAT WERE GOING TO BE SHOWN. TIME TRAVEL, AFROFUTURISM AND "HEAVY" HITTING MUSIC.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

JEAN DEAUXS WORLD WAS CREATED FROM AN INTRICATE WRITING AND DIRECTING STYLE THAT WE NEEDED TO TRANSLATE. WE TOOK REFERANCE FROM PRACTICAL VFX AND 90S SCFI MOVIES. AFROFUTURISM WAS SUCH AN INCREDIBLE GENRE AND DIVING DEEP AND MODERNIZING IT AND EXPANDING ON THE VISUAL NARRATIVE WAS A UNIQUE PROJECT. WE USED AI AND PHOTOSHOP TO COMPENSATE FOR ALL THE SMALL DETAILS AND IT HELPED US WORLD BUILD UNDER A TIGHT SCHEDULE AND DELIVERY TIMELINE.

VFX AND COMPOSITING

ONCE THE CONCEPTS WERE FINALIZED WE MOVED INTO VFX AND COMPOSITING. IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR GENESIS AND JEAN THAT THE VFX ONLY ADDED AND DIDNT TAKE AWAY FROM THE CINEMATOGRAPHY. WE CRAFTED A STYLE AND ASSET CHOICE THAT FIT THE AFROFUTURISM AND ANALOG OLD SCHOOL SCFI FEEL.

3D PRODUCTION

MOVING INTO 3D PRODUCTION OUR AIM WAS TO DELIVER MULTIPLE SCENES USING ASSETS THAT WOULD BE ABLE TO LIVE IN THE "HEAVY" WORLD - WE GRABBED ANALOG MECHANICAL OBJECTS AND "TAPE" RECORDERS. WE TOOK INSPIRATION FROM THE ORIGINAL CALL OF DUTY :  BLACK OPS INTRO WHILE CLEANING UP THE GRIT AND MAKING IT FEEL LIKE A SPY MOVIE. WE CREATED 3D SETS AND SOUNDSTAGES AND REPEATING ASSETS THAT ALLOWED US TO ART DIRECT WITHIN THE SAME VISUAL CONSTRAINTS WITHIN EACH FRAME. 

EDIT & COLOR

GENESIS WAS PROMPTED IN CREATING THE PACING AND COLOR FIELD FOR THIS EPISODIC AND WE COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH HOW IT TURNED OUT. COLORING DARKER SKINTONES AND RETAINING INFORMATION WHILE ALSO HAVE SHARP CONTRAST AND VIBRANT COLOR IS A CHALLENGE FOR ANY EXPERIENCED COLORIST, WE TOOK THIS CHALLENGE TO SHOW THAT THERE IS NO EXCUSE IN PLACING THE CARE AND TIME IN REALLY MAKING EVERYONE STAND OUT AND AMPLIFY THE AMAZING ACTING SKILLS OF THE EMERGING TALENT. THE PACE NEEDED TO BE CINEMATIC AND SLOW, IN A FAST PACED WORLD THIS WAS AN AWESOME WAY TO FLEX THE ABILITY OUR LABS HAVE IN CRAFTING STORY DRIVEN EXPERIENCES AS WELL AS  PROJECTS WITH MORE VISUAL MOMENTUM.

IN CONCLUSION

JEAN DEAUXS "HEAVY" PROJECT WAS AN AWESOME INTEGRATION TO GENESIS LABS PORTFOLIO. WE WANT TO WORK ON MORE EPISODICS IN THE FUTURE, ESPECIALLY IN AN INDUSTRY THAT FAVORS SHORT FORM CONTENT. THIS PROJECT IS A TESTAMENT THAT IF AN ARTIST WANTS TO ACHIEVE IT THEY CAN.
